“Distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.”
— Romans 12:13
Christian hospitality is one of the most overlooked yet powerful expressions of fellowship. It is not about impressive meals or spotless homes; it is about opening your life to others and creating space where they feel they belong. Paul lists it plainly among the marks of genuine love: "given to hospitality" (Romans 12:13). A welcoming home can become holy ground.
More Than Entertaining
Our culture often confuses hospitality with entertaining. Entertaining seeks to impress; hospitality seeks to serve. One focuses on the host and the home; the other focuses on the guest and their comfort. 1 Peter 4:9 instructs us to "be hospitable to one another without grumbling," a reminder that true welcome costs us something and gives freely anyway.
You do not need a beautiful house or culinary skill. A simple meal, a cup of coffee, or an open chair can communicate more love than an elaborate spread. The point is presence, not performance.
Welcoming the Stranger
Scripture repeatedly links hospitality to welcoming those outside our usual circles. "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels" (Hebrews 13:2). Hospitality reaches beyond comfortable friendships to the newcomer, the lonely, and the outsider. Jesus Himself identified with the stranger, saying, "I was a stranger and you took Me in" (Matthew 25:35).
In a fragmented, isolated world, a believer who simply opens the door becomes a vivid picture of the gospel: the God who welcomes sinners home.
Starting Where You Are
Begin small and begin imperfect. Invite one person or one family for a simple meal. Welcome the new face at church to your table. Offer your home as a place where a small group or prayer gathering can meet. Hospitality grows as you practice it, and your imperfect efforts often mean more than you realize.
At PraiseHim Club, we believe fellowship flourishes when believers open their lives to one another. Whether through your physical home or a warm digital welcome, you can help others find belonging. Joining is free, and the door is always open.
